Australian Made Ventilation Hoods Sent to Torres Strait for Extra Medical Protection

Australian Made Ventilation Hoods Sent to Torres Strait for Extra Medical Protection Healthcare workers in the remote Torres Strait Islands will soon receive Australian-made ventilation hoods to help protect staff from COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus, amid a nearby outbreak in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The first of three ventilation Medihoods are being sent to a remote hospital in the Torres Strait after vaccinations were paused in the region. The hospital is a referral point for 17 Primary Health Care Centres in the Torres Strait Islands. The islands in the Torres Strait are home to many indigenous Australians who are classed as being among the most vulnerable to the virus’s health impacts.

Extra virus protection for Torres Strait

Healthcare workers treating COVID19 cases in the Torres Strait will be given extra protection against the virus as the outbreak in neighbouring Papua New Guinea grows. The first of three ventilation hoods is being transported to the hospital on Thursday Island off the tip of Cape York in the far north of Queensland. It is the referral hospital for seventeen Primary Health Care Centres in the Torres Strait Islands. Particularly in light of the recent clusters in Queensland being traced back to health staff, providing additional layers of protection equipment is essential to protect not just the health professionals treating COVID patients, but also the broader community, Rural Doctors Association of Australia President John Hall said.

Crisp, cold and humming with gin; very little vermouth. But a bone dust martini? Well, that s something else entirely. Victor Churchill butchery in Woollahra creates an incredible amount of bone dust from sawing meat every day, says cocktail wizard Matt Whiley at Re, the bar he s officially opening on Tuesday, April 13 at the South Eveleigh redevelopment near Redfern. Rather than let it go to waste, we re planning to roast that powder and use it to enhance a martini.

Revealed: Top performing secondary schools in Bexley

Topping the table is Balgowan Primary School, with 96 percent of students meeting the expected standard. Information is based on The Department for Education (DfE) published list from 2019, as last year s results were put on hold due to coronavirus. Pupils are meeting the expected standard if they achieve a scaled score of 100 or more in their reading and maths tests, and their teacher assesses them as working at the expected standard or better in writing. It is based on a series of national curriculum tests at the end of Key Stage 2, which take place for mathematics, English reading and English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
